About
Providence Medical Group

Providence Medical Group (PMG) Oregon is rooted in a story that began in the mid-19th century with the Sisters of Providence, whose courage and compassion brought healing to the Pacific Northwest at a time when care was scarce and communities were underserved. Guided by a profound commitment to serve the poor and vulnerable, the Sisters established hospitals and ministries across Oregon, laying the foundation for what would become one of the region’s most trusted systems of care. Today, PMG Oregon carries that same spirit forward—an integrated network of caregivers united not just by clinical excellence, but by a shared Mission to serve all, especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

Anchored in Our Values

With compassion, dignity, justice, excellence, integrity, and safety, Providence Medical Group reflects a vision of healthcare that is deeply human—one that honors the whole person, body, mind, and spirit, and remains steadfast in its promise to care especially for those who need it most.

Health Equity for All

At Providence, we recognize that long-standing inequities and systemic injustices exist in the world. This has led to health disparities among communities that have been marginalized because of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, religion or socioeconomic status.

Each year, we serve more than 6 million people from every walk of life. We value each member of our diverse communities for their identities, journeys and experiences. And we commit to doing the personal and institutional work needed to live the values of Providence, which call us to welcome all and serve one another with respect and dignity. Our investment of $50 million to reduce health disparities and achieve health equity is just the beginning.

We pledge to

At Providence Medical Group, health equity is not a program—it is a promise to our communities.

Build, strengthen and maintain relationships with our diverse communities, including people of color, Indigenous people, those who identify as LGBTQIA+ and others experiencing inequities, oppression and discrimination

Listen to and partner with our patients, communities and health plan members to understand and actively reduce structural, racial and cultural barriers to health for all

Partner with community organizations to develop data-informed health equity strategies and implement proven practices to resolve the root causes of health disparities

Amplify the voices of all identities impacted by oppression. Advocate to reform the drivers of health, social and economic disparities. And in keeping with our faith tradition, use our voice to speak out against the structural racism and injustice that has led to a public health crisis

Prevent further harm, humbly welcome discussion and feedback, and foster a culture of continuous learning and transparency

Advancing Health Through Advocacy, Compassion, and Community

Together, we are putting our Mission into action—meeting people where they are, strengthening access to care, and building healthier, more equitable communities across Oregon. We are investing in communities, removing barriers and expanding access to whole-person care. In 2025 alone, Providence delivered $436.6 million in community benefit, ensuring individuals and families across Oregon receive the care, dignity and support they deserve.

Oregon Community Health Initiatives

Creating Healthier Communities Together (Health Initiatives)

Providence is advancing community health through strategic partnerships, innovative solutions, and investments that improve access to care and address health disparities across Oregon. By working alongside community organizations, healthcare providers, and local leaders, we are building healthier, more connected communities.

Data for Change Initiative

Launched in 2021, Data for Change helps Providence community benefit grantees strengthen their ability to measure impact and make data-informed decisions. Through mentoring, shared learning opportunities, and an annual Data Summit, the initiative has provided more than 793 hours of support to community organizations and was recognized with the Portland Business Journal’s 2024 Innovations in Philanthropy Award.

Building Community Through Collective Impact

Providence brings organizations together to address complex community challenges through collaborative, community-led solutions. This approach has helped launch more than 130 programs, create over 65 jobs, train more than 100 Community Health Workers, and secure $36 million in funding. In 2024, the model expanded to Oregon’s north coast, where partners have already secured more than $7.2 million to support local priorities.

Health Systems Access to Care Fund

Providence co-founded the Health Systems Access to Care Fund with Kaiser Permanente Northwest, Legacy Health, and PeaceHealth to strengthen community-supported clinics throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. These investments help clinics expand capacity, improve infrastructure, and increase access to care for underserved populations. In 2024, participating clinics collectively provided more than 26,500 patient visits.

Medication Assistance Program

The Medication Assistance Program (MAP) helps eligible patients access essential medications and infusion therapies that might otherwise be unaffordable. Serving communities across Oregon, MAP connects patients with financial assistance resources, helping reduce barriers to treatment while improving health outcomes and continuity of care.

Investing in Lasting Impact

Through innovative partnerships and community-driven solutions, Providence is helping expand access to care, strengthen local organizations, and create healthier futures for the communities we serve.

Building Healthier Communities Together (Community Programs)

At Providence, we partner with community organizations, schools, faith communities, and local service providers to improve access to care and address the social factors that impact health. Through innovative programs and trusted partnerships, we are advancing health equity and helping individuals and families across Oregon thrive.

Our Philosophy
At Providence Medical Group, our patients are at the heart of everything we do, and we understand that to deliver clinical excellence and compassionate care, we have to be there for our caregivers as well.
Our team works to foster an inclusive workplace where caregivers of differing backgrounds and perspectives can experience a community of mutual respect, inclusivity and collegiality, and know unequivocally that diversity is valued. We are committed to providing our caregivers with best-in-class benefits and compensation packages that reflect the high level of patient care they bring to the bedside every day.
Our roots as the community’s partner in health run deep. For decades, we’ve joined forces with countless organizations to address homelessness, food insecurity, domestic violence, addiction and chronic illness. In the past five years, Providence Swedish has invested more than $1 billion to improve the health and bring a deeper sense of well-being to our more vulnerable community members.

Our Work Has Not Gone Unrecognized
